Maldives Visa FAQs
In order to enter Maldives the Indian nationals visiting Maldives as a tourist do not require any pre-arrival visa. A free Maldives Tourist Visa which is valid for approximately ninety days is issued to Indian nationals on arriving at the Male airport.
Travelers must meet the following criteria:
Should possess a valid passport and;
Have a valid ticket to continue the journey out of Maldives
Have enough funds to cover the expenses for duration of the stay in Maldives. (US$100 + $50 dollars per day) or
Confirmation of reservation in a Tourist Resort or a Hotel.
Invitation letter and any additional original documents to supplement your purpose of visit (for business travelers)
A Tourist Visa allows you to stay in the Maldives for 30 days, but may be extended for another 60-day period.
Full 30 – day visa is not a right of the passenger to claim, but lies at the discretion of the Immigration to issue not more than thirty days and any period less than thirty days.
Usually, it takes around 20 minutes to get all formalities done and get the visa on arrival. However, the time may vary depending on the peak travel period.
After landing at Maldives airport, please head to the Immigration counter. The authorities will most likely ask basic questions such as the reason for travel and duration of stay. Overall, it takes about 15-20 minutes to issue an entry permit. The whole method is hassle-free.
Indians are not liable to face a rejection. However, the above said documents are necessary to enter the country. Failure to produce any of the documents may result into rejection of your visa, thereby barring you from entering the country. The final decision to grant an entry permit is solely at the discretion of the Immigration officials at Maldives airport.
You are strongly advised to purchase a health / travel insurance to cover yourself in Maldives as medical treatment can be very expensive in Maldives.
